Ev was awake and happy last night while I snapped a few pictures on my phone. She’s 5 days old and I think she is beautiful!

Behind the scenes
Who knew that a blanket and a bean bag could make such a snuggly back drop? Bethany also brought a space heater. Once the room was warm Ev was more than relaxed.
A warm room and a bottle are the perfect combo to make a sleepy baby. Halle Kate and Robot were always close by – HK is VERY protective and interested in her baby sister.
I wanted pictures with the big sisters but they were NOT cooperating at all. I finally got desperate enough to bribe them and pulled out the super big guns, ring pops and marshmallows. They at least got in a picture but I didn’t get them in their matching big sister shirts. That will be another battle for another day.
If you’re in the WR area and are looking for a photographer contact Bethany!

Big Sisters/Little Sister
We love nothing more than sitting around in our jammies in this house! A few days before Ev was born it really started to bother me that I didn’t have anything for the big girls and I wanted to make sure they didn’t feel left out. I found the Big Sister jammies at Carter’s and then made Ev jammies to match.
I also made the girls bags and had a book about being a big sister with their jammies. Ev wrote them each a note about how excited she was to be their little sister and how she can’t wait to “cuddle up” and read books/watch tv. Some time I want to get a picture of all 3 of them in their jammies but I need everyone to be well before we start cuddling!
I am writing this when we have been home just over a week. So far we’ve had a few issues with everyone adjusting. More tears and more acting out for attention from the big girls but nothing unexpected. They do wake up each morning and make a comment about how Ev is “still just a baby” or “she still can’t talk”, etc. Ha! Give it time, big girls. Pretty soon she is going to be into everything you own!
Desperate Woman and Exploding Drinks
On the Friday night before Evelyn was born I started having contractions. Jared went ahead to bed and by midnight I thought “this is it!” and packed all our stuff. However, by 3am they had stopped and I was asleep on the couch. Waking up on Saturday I was still very pregnant and pretty darn grumpy about it! We went to the gym Sat morning and then ran around town before the girls went to a gymnastics birthday party…where I jumped around the bouncy floor, looking goofy trying to shake up a baby! Before bed Jared said “tomorrow I am going to put you on the elliptical until you go into labor. I will bring you fluids”. HA! However, that didn’t sound like such a bad idea. I wanted this baby OUT and I was going to do anything I could to make it happen.
Sunday morning we ate breakfast at Panera, walked around Target and then rented me a movie. I came home and got on the elliptical until I was bored and then made Jared go to the park. We walked a little over 2 miles, came home and I went to Costco to walk more, came home and made Jared go back to the park for another 2+ miles. I was a desperate woman! As we walked we decided that I’d call the dr the next morning and go ahead and see about being induced on Mon or Tues. I came home took a shower, painted my toe nails and got the girls in bed. Jared was downstairs watching the Superbowl and I was upstairs finishing the movie I’d started that morning. Within 10 minutes of sitting still I felt the first contraction. After an hour of regular contractions I made my way downstairs and told Jared…he immediately jumped into action until I assured him that if anything was going to happen it would be a while. We took our time getting into bed and I grabbed a magazine while he went to sleep. Just after midnight the contractions were 8 min apart but nothing too painful and I assumed it was another false alarm….until just before 1am when my water broke and I quickly got Jared awake. It was go time!
When my water broke with HK I wasn’t having contractions yet and it was no big deal. I showered and took my time getting ready. This time my contractions were 5 min apart and we were racing to get out the door. I’d unpacked most of my bag after Friday night’s false alarm and we were throwing things in the bag and in the car. We got out of the house quickly (my mom was already in town for the weekend and had decided to stay so we didn’t have to do anything with the girls).
The hospital is 35+ min from our house, it was after 1am and J was driving umm, briskly! Just as we got off the exit he popped the straw up on one of my gym water bottles that he’d filled with Dr. Pepper and Dr. Pepper exploded EVERYWHERE! Literally, we were both wiping our faces and our clothes. The back of J’s seats were dripping….can you see it on these picture? I was laughing so hard! I unscrewed the top to let the pressure out and we were at the hospital and out of the car. As I filled out paperwork Jared went back to grab our things from the car. I noticed that he brought the water bottle in but didn’t think to ask about the lid…until he popped the top again and BOOM! Exploding drink in the lobby. Seriously, I was laughing so hard. He cleaned that off the floor and found what looked to be a hand sanitizer dispenser on the wall. He squirted his hands as the nurse came to take us to our room. As I turned to walk I heard him say “what is this?” And then then lady without a sense of humor behind the desk said “Oh honey, that is soap!”. HAHAHA! He was covered in frothy soap and there was not a sink to be found. How he grabbed our bags with those hands I still don’t know but he showed up in the room not long after me.
Long story short we got to a room about 2am, my contractions were 4 min apart and I asked for the epidural. Before you can get drugs you have to fill out tons of hospital paperwork, get an iv started and have blood taken and have those lab results back….all of which takes a darn long time when you want MEDS! I finally got an epidural at 5am and was ready to have the baby….except our dr wasn’t there yet because when you go in laughing and cutting up at 2am no one takes you seriously and believes you’re about to have a baby (pretty sure those were the exact words our nurse used to later describe the situation) and they had not called my dr. At one point they put a pillow between my legs and said “you need to try to not cough and not laugh while we wait for your dr”. SERIOUSLY?!?!?! Our tiny peanut wasn’t willing to wait and after 3 pushes she came out and landed on the table with no dr there to catch her. True story. Jared reached down and touched her first and the dr, who had come flying into the room, finally got her gown and gloves on and clamped the cord. Baby girl was screaming from the first second and our nurse, who was fairly new to her job, had very big eyes! Everything checked out perfect 7lbs 4oz and 21” long and all the chaos was forgotten. My epidural was turned off about as quickly as it was turned on and we spent time cuddling with our newest girl!

Whirlwind baby!
to this :
to this on Monday morning:
Welcome to the family Evelyn Claire Heald! You are precious and perfect!
As I took pictures off the camera I realized just how much technology has changed in the years since Matney and HK were born. I think we had 20 pictures total on our camera when I just downloaded them. After panicking for a minute I realized that almost all the pictures we took at the hospital are on our phones. That wasn’t even an option when the girls were born. At least not picture quality wise. I haven’t gotten all of mine off my phone yet but here are the highlights of Monday and Tuesday.
Evelyn came out screaming and crying at 5:25am, 21” long and 7lbs 4oz. She passed all the tests and looks perfect and healthy!
I was so excited to see all that hair (bows!!!) and Jared was beside himself that it is brown. Maybe one of his girls will look like him!
The food at the hospital was so so nasty. We opted for dinner out of the vending machines on Monday night. I thought Jared and his pink Twinkie was funny enough to need a picture.
After Jared fell asleep I stuck a giant bow on her head and Miss Ev and I hung out for a while. So sweet!
Since we all know that Jared and I cannot sit still for any extended period of time you won’t be shocked to know that I had showered and we were ready and waiting to leave before 6am on Tuesday. We requested to be released after 24 hours - if the mother’s ob and baby’s pediatrician both agree then they’ll let you go early. Ev and I were both doing well so by 11am we were out of there!
Headed home!
Sweet girls slept the whole way home. And I don’t know why I ever said anything about how the girls had been well or this would be an easy transition since they’d be in school because just as soon as I started going into labor both girls got sick. HK has missed school all week. In fact, when we got home from the hospital I changed clothes and turned right around and took her to the dr. I guess they don’t have a lady give birth and show up with a different kid the next day. I was the talk of the office! And HK was NOT happy to be there!
So here we are a few days later. There is a teeny tiny baby in what now looks like a very big crib. Matney is better, HK is still sick and I bet will sleep less than the baby tonight. It has been a whirlwind! I’ll back up and do more individual posts asap!
And I started this post at noon – it is now 6pm. Life is about to be crazy!

Welcome Evelyn!
Didn’t you know that all little girls come home from the hospital to Spiderman and Tinkerbell balloons?!?!?
The girls had a birthday party for Ev when we got inside. They’d made a baby cake and Matney made sure that everyone had a place/name tag so we’d know where to sit. Such sweet girls!
The girls had us sing Happy Birthday and when we got to the “dear Evelyn” line HK sang “Happy Birthday, dear Tiny” at the top of her lungs. If Ev is forever called Tiny then we’ll all know where that nickname came from!

Ev is here!
Welcome to the world, baby girl! Mommy is so very glad you are not in my belly anymore. I will get pics up today or tomorrow. Poor HK is sick and we’ve got our hands full!
I am pretty sure most of you know all this but she was born Feb 4 at 5:25am. She weighed 7lb 4oz and was 21” long. Weight wise that puts her right in the middle of Matney and HK and she is the longest baby we’ve had. She’s got lots of brown hair. The big sisters are super excited that she is here, although they are not happy that she isn’t big enough to play yet!

39 week update
The update is that there really is no update! I don’t go back to the dr until Friday but so far no signs of Evelyn wanting to come out! I think that we are all getting a little antsy. Jared is trying to stay on top of everything at work, ready to walk out at a moments notice. The girls don’t even pay attention to talking much about a new baby anymore because we’ve been talking about it for so long. And I am uncomfortable and tired of feeling like I need the house ready to walk out of at a moments notice. I’m doing laundry and getting groceries all the time trying to make sure we’re always ready. AGH!
Thankfully, this will be easy with the girls. They are in school until 1pm, Matney’s best friend lives a few minutes away and her parents are ready to take them at a moments notice. Plus, our kids would rather be at their house anyway! We all go to the same school so they’ll go to/from school with friends. This weekend they have a birthday party to be at so they won’t just be home even if we aren’t here. They’ll come back home to sleep and probably think it is the most fun few days since Disney World! Because of germs/flu season, etc. we have decided that we do not want them coming to the hospital. We can Skype with the girls from the hospital so they’ll see us and we’ll see them. I sure will miss those rugrats though!
Even when you’re having girl #3 a MoMo just can’t help herself. Love those tutu bloomers, socks and hats!
A belly shot a few days away from our due date. Holy cow that is one big belly!
My friend Kim came up last week with her daughter Lauren. We did the math and Lauren is exactly the same age that Matney was when Halle Kate was born and OH.MY.WORD. a 14 month old is still a baby! I have no idea how we survived. Going from 2 to 3 is sure to have challenges but having two kids who can are semi independent will make this sooooo much easier!
