It is no secret that Matney has never been a great sleeper. She didn't sleep through the night or nap for more than 30 minutes until she was a year old. She's always liked to get up with the first ray of sunshine. Hopefully our house will never catch on fire and her room be the escape route because we'll have to get through the blinds, thick piece of black fleece I tacked over the window and room darkening fabric sewn onto her curtains. Of course to get to that window we'll need to move the towel that stays rolled up covering the crack under her door. Can you tell that I've tried everything to keep Miss M asleep past 6am?
After a month of being sick and up early not feeling well and then a week at the beach she was totally off schedule and up around 5:45am every day. After almost 2.5years I had HAD IT! Enter the Good Nite Light. I'd heard about it a while ago and was desperate enough to try it. I am more than ecstatic to report that IT WORKS! It is much like a night light shaped like a sun/moon but is attached to a clock. We set the time for the moon to come on at night, it stays on all night and then changes to look like a yellow sun at whatever time we set it to. Over the course of 2 weeks, moving the time the sun comes on 10 minutes at a time, we've gone from up before the sun outside to sleeping until 7:45am. WHOOO HOOO! Plus, Matney thinks it is super cool to have a "Mr Sun" in her room. We are all happy girls in the morning now.
Most of the reviews for the light are for older kids who are out of cribs. They learn not to get out of bed until the sun comes on. I am hopeful that Matney already understanding concept of the light will make her transition to a big girl bed easier. I TOTALLY recommend spending the money on this if you are struggling to keep a little one in bed.
