Finally, new posts!

So sorry I've been a slacker. I have been working on M's first birthday info and was lazy about moving pictures from the camera. I know most of you only check this for her so I wasn't about to put up the post without the pictures!

Right now I really wish I was asleep, it is 5 something in the morning and I've been up for a long while, but sleep doesn't seem to happen much these days. I can't get comfortable, I get comfortable and have to go to the bathroom again. Good times. Just when Matney really starts sleeping through the night I can't enjoy it!

This is the bug walking behind her lion. She is just figuring out how to hold on and push. Jared or I have to be holding onto the lion or he gets too far in front of her and she lands face first but she's getting the idea. And very impressed with herself if you can't tell. Big stuff!

Happy First Birthday

These are the best pictures of Matney I have from her actual birthday. On Wednesday mornings she and I get up and head to church for Bible Study. By the time we get home it is late for her morning nap and she goes straight to bed. She gets up eats, plays a little and we go back to church to meet her Daddy for dinner and our couples class. It is a busy day for all of us and doesn't leave much time for a photo shoot!

Don't you like that she is showing you her bottle and paci? She just wants to make sure we all know that she doesn't want to give up either of them even though she is a year old.

Last Wednesday was Matney's first birthday. Jared and I can hardly believe that she is a year old but at the same time it seems like she has been part of the family forever and should be older. This year with Matney has been the most wonderful, joyful year either of us have ever had. It has also been challenging and frustrating many, many times!

I thought I'd post some of what Matney is up to now for those of you interested (and partly for me to have so that I can go back and remember!).

Our girl is on the move. After not crawling until about 11 months she has totally caught back up with all her playgroup friends. We have baby gates up in several areas of the house and she has learned the noise they made when we open them. As soon as she hears it she's off trying to beat us through. She is so proud when we let her climb up the stairs. Just this week has she started pulling up on everything and walking around whatever she's holding onto.

Matney doesn't eat much baby food any more. Sometimes if we go out I'll take a container but she prefers to eat whatever is on our plates. I understand now that my parents didn't eat a warm meal from the time that I was born until my brother and I were both grown. Her favorite foods are any kind of fruit and green peas. She LOVES mandarin orange segments and pineapple. She also LOVES American cheese. When I say "Matney do you want some cheese?" she grins and says "cheese, cheese" (it sounds like "ease, ease"). Ice cream would also be a favorite food if we let her have it often. I am pretty sure she inherited her mama's sweet tooth!

She is FINALLY sleeping through the night again. She'd started around 10 months but then month 11 she was sick and I was sick so she got spoiled because someone was always willing to pick her up when she cried and give her a bottle. Rotten. Once I was back on my feet we had a couple days of tough mommy love. She goes down around 7 or 7:30 and normally sleeps about 12 hours. THANK THE LORD FOR ANSWERED PRAYER!!!

She takes 1 or 2 naps a day for about 30 minutes each. At minimum she goes in her crib twice a day but sometimes she just "plays" for 30 minutes and I'll give in a take her out. She doesn't cry, just rolls around and talks to her puppy dog which is crazy cute to listen to over the monitor. If she isn't going to sleep but will entertain herself in her bed I am totally fine with that. Yeah for Mommy free time.

Matney has several favorite things/toys. The puppy dog and Elmo are a given. When she sees either of them she squeals and starts wiggling to get to them. She has both a princess and fairy doll/music box that she has LOVED since she was a baby. Jared and I often hide them because once she catches a glimpse of either we have to stop what we're doing and wind them up. I am content to be in quiet but I think Matney is like her Daddy and needs sounds. We have cds with fun songs upstairs and downstairs. If I don't turn them on when we are in a room she'll head for the CD player and if I start to head that way she gets very excited. I called my Grandmama not long ago because the CD she gave M for her birthday is a favorite and I am SO SICK of hearing it already.

Matney also loves books. Her favorites are touch and feel or flap books. I think if I let her she would sit in my lap ALL DAY and read the same 5 books. I hope she inherited her parents love for reading. Most of the time she can "find" cats, dogs, ducks and baby even in books she hasn't seen before.

Matney also knows where her head, ears, eyes, nose, mouth, belly button and toes are. She is working on shoulders and knees because they are in the "Head, shoulders, knees and toes" song, which she loves but is too fast for her to keep up on the cd. When we sing it slowly she gets them right a good percentage of the time. She also knows the names of most of her toys and can go find them when you ask her to.

I took her to the dr Monday and she weighs 22lbs 4oz (69th percentile). At least that is a good guess. She was SCREAMING and so glued to me that we had a hard time getting her on the scale. The nurse finally got that number and said "close enough, pick her up!". She is 30 inches tall (77th percentile). I never imagined Jared and I would have a child on the higher end of a height scale for even one day. The dr said that she looks perfect. What a blessing.

On a side note when I was leaving the dr office I asked about scheduling her 15 month appt. The doctor told me to wait and just schedule Matney's 15 month when we schedule her sister's 2 week appt. Can I just tell you that I almost FELL OVER! He is right, by the time Matney is 15 months old we'll have at least a two week old baby. CRAZY!!!

Matney's best friend

To get Matney dressed for playgroup today I put her in her "Hooray I'm 1" Elmo shirt that she and Grandma just happened to come home with while I was sick. Can't imagine how they found that! Anyway, she was SO enthralled with Elmo being on her shirt it was hysterical. She kept grabbing the shirt and pulling it away from her body and squealing (her new obnoxious habit). Eventually she'd let him go and start to crawl but she must have gotten glimpses of him on her belly because she'd go to grab him again and face plant into the carpet. Sweet Baby Girl, you need your arms on the ground to crawl!

In a couple of these pics she is sitting on my lap eating cake. 4 of the 8 playgroup kids were born this week so we had a birthday party over here today. We took all the kids, put them in a circle and let them have at a cake. Pictures will follow AFTER I clean up the mess. It looks like a cake bomb exploded!

Disneyworld Daddy

I call Jared "Disney World Dad" all the time because he gets to come in and play with Matney while she spends the day with me having to entertain herself if I'm cleaning or cooking, etc. Jared can get her laughing in less than 10 seconds and I'm winded after 10 seconds of carrying her around (in case you forgot I am 7 months pregnant). He's like the Disney World coming in the door at night and I am like the step mom in Cinderella all day. He is fun and games and I am laundry, eat your peas, change your diaper and let's clean your room. Matney knows when Daddy is home it is PLAY TIME!

Here they are bouncing around and having a great time while boring Mama sat on the couch writing thank you cards.

Matney thinks Daddy's head is a drum. Beat it, Kiddo!

Oh my goodness they are cute!

BALLOONS!

I think Matney's favorite part of her birthday party may have come the next day. When we got home from church on Sunday all her balloons were floating at "Matney height"- about 8" off the floor. She chased those balloons all over the room. If you know me you know I can't stand that kind of balloon. Silver foil type balloons are fine, those plastic like ready to explode in your face type...I hate them! But, for Matney's birthday, I let them in the house. Jared had to be the one playing with her while she was rolling all over them because it made me a nervous wreak. She had a blast though!

SNOW!

Matney's first birthday party and snow all in the same weekend! Sunday afternoon we ran Matney outside to take a quick picture in the snow. Though we'd heard predictions of lots of snow we didn't get anything significant and it wasn't cold enough to stick but it was pretty coming down. Matney kept trying to catch the flakes!

Random Gift Pictures

These are just some random pictures of Matney opening her gifts. She was so sweet and sat in my lap the entire time. She loved the bows and we had to stop and let her play with some things she opened. Although, I don't think there was one toy Jared didn't have to take out of the package as soon as the wrapping came off. Um, its Matney's party!!!

A new CD from Great Grandmama. Matney LOVES music and this CD apparently tasted good too!

pink ruffles and its monogrammed. Thanks Leslie! I have to admit that when your package came in the mail I knew it would be something cute and I snuck a peak! I hope our children don't inherit patience from me!

Big bows and little bows...Miss Matney LOVES bows!

CUTE Baby's first B-day onesie from Jared's Aunt Vicki in TX. She will definitely be wearing this on Wednesday (her actual birthday).

Thank you so much to everyone for all of Matney's great presents. She has had a blast already today playing with her new toys and I've already gotten most of her clothes washed. Of course, they are all spring clothes and it was snowing outside today so I shouldn't have been in a hurry!

Cake!

I have more pictures but they are backwards again. So frustrating.

Here is Matney with her little cake that was made to look like her big cake. She was not so sure about digging in! She touched it a couple times but was never interested in eating it. In the top picture Jared came over to try and coax her to try more but she wanted out of that chair!

"Mama, get me out!"

she hardly tried

"Um, I don't think I want this cake!"

Matney's First Birthday Party

Matney seemed to have a great time at her party. There were several other kids here and she was on the go as soon as she came downstairs. She played and played with the other munchkins and did not want to be stopped or held...unless someone was going to give her ice cream!

Family picture with Matney's cake

Isn't she the prettiest little girl ever?!?! I know I am her mama but she is beautiful.

Matney in her Birthday Girl hat.

This is Matney with Abby, Rose's daughter. Abby is Matney's FAVORITE person.

Matney with Jared's parents.

Matney had just woken up and came downstairs in her pretty dress.

This is the only picture I have of Matney standing so that you can see her whole dress. My mom found the dress online and got it for her. Isn't it (and the matching bow) so crazy cute?!?! The "candle" on the top of the cake is the number one and it came with numbers 1-5 to replace the one with as long as it fits. I think you may see it again at future birthday parties. I LOVE IT!

When Matney saw that Abby was holding Erica's daughter Blaire she crawled across the room and Abby had to carry them both. Jealous you think? I wonder what she'll do when her sister gets here!

My grandmama, Mom, me and Matney

What I don't have a picture of is the clock that night when Jared and I were getting into bed. The time would be embarrassing! It has been such a crazy, stressful month and we were exhausted. Her party started at 3pm and by 6:45pm our house was clean again, all the dishes done and food put away (THANK YOU MOM AND ROSE!!!!) and it was just Matney, Jared and myself. We took a load of stuff upstairs, got Matney to sleep and were in the bed!

Thank you thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate Matney's first birthday. We are so blessed to have such great friends and family.

Pre birthday party

We had Mantey's first birthday party yesterday...I cannot believe I just had to type that. It is crazy to realize that she is such a big girl! We tried to keep it simple and small so we just had our family and a couple close friends over. These are pictures from before the party.

Matney and Daddy

Mom and I made party favors for the adults and kiddos. The adults got chocolate dipped pretzels with a thank you note from Matney.

These next pictures are in a funny order as usual. Sorry! We tried to take a picture of M with her cake and she quickly went for the frosting. Can you see it on her finger. She is quick! We tried to explain she just needed to wait a couple hours and she'd get her own little cake.

The kiddos got bags of fun party favors. Sorry to the parents. We hoped it would be pretty outside so the older kids had sidewalk chalk and bubbles. It was nasty out so you'll have to use them at home! The younger kids had books and bubbles.

More cake pictures. We got M's invitation, took the top sheet off and put it in this shadow box that said "I'm 1!" but you can't see it well.

After we took these pictures we took Matney upstairs for an afternoon nap hopeful that she would wake up in a great mood. It worked and she got up just a couple minutes after people started arriving. What a good girl!
