Crazy Crawlers

Look at my crazy crawlers! Halle Kate took off for the front door last week and I grabbed the camera, cheering her on. Matney heard me clapping and praising Halle Kate and was quickly on her heels. We had a great time cheering and crawling. These are wild girls!

Halle Kate at 9 months

I took these pictures the day that Halle Kate turned 9 months and had every intention of posting an update before now. Clearly that didn't happen.

Isn't she so cute? Oh my goodness, she has the sweetest personality. To say that Jared and I are crazy in love with her does not even begin to explain it!

At 9 months HK weighed 15lb 10oz (0-5%) and her height was around 25% but I will have to find the sheet to get the inches because I can't remember. We seemed to have finally gotten her poor stomach back on track after lots of changes/experiments with her diet. She is really tiny so we're watching her closely to make sure that she continues to grow and thrive. In the last week she is crawling all over the house and pulling up on everything. She is itty bitty but seems to be a healthy girl!

She takes 2 one hour naps a day and sleeps about 12 hours at night, waking once around 5am for a 7oz bottle. I am ready to be done with that early morning feeding!
Her favorite things are Matney, Matney and Matney. They make each other laugh all the time. Matney sings to her in the car and they fake cough together. Now that HK is on the move (and always headed for Matney's toys) we've certainly started hearing "MINE" from Matney much more often. Some days seem to last way more than 24 hours if they don't nap in the afternoon!

As long as I am not more than 1' away and she is able to get good sleep in her bed Halle Kate is always in a great mood. She is chewing everything, crawling everywhere and will ride in the car as long as she has her Elmo doll. I'd heard people say that with two kids you can love them "the same but different" and, until now, I didn't understand how that could be true. Matney took every piece of my heart over the past two years...or so I thought. I feel now like the Grinch at the end of the movie. Apparently my heart was two sizes too small because Halle Kate has taken over all of the new part that grew when she was born. I love love love this little girl and cannot wait to watch her grow over the next 9 months!

FEMA is bringing us a check

I've seen several friends' blogs recently with pictures of their house at the end of the day...and I've laughed! They've all said something like "look at this huge mess after a day inside with my kids". Seriously? My house looks like that every day before 9am. By noon we're WAY ahead in the war of chaos and by nightfall on a day when Halle Kate is sick and M has been stuck inside for 5 days in a row...ha! See for yourself. I think these pictures are from the day that Jared (who is not normally know for his witty sense of humor which makes this all the more funny) walked in and said "if FEMA walked in here right now they'd give us money.". I laughed so hard. This place is a disaster!!!

Do you see Matney?

These pics turned out blurry but I was changing HK's diaper and clothes for at least the 10th time that day and realized Matney was quiet. Normally that means she's into something but look where I found her. She'd climbed on the couch with her snack, gotten a pillow and was just relaxing. What a hoot!

Normally we pick up before nap time so it isn't quite so bad by the end of the day but with HK sick I just let it go. The FEMA comment from Jared made all the clean up worth it. What a great laugh!
So, my sweet mommy friends. Don't try to compete in the mess war. The Heald house has you beat!

Boo Boo

Matney played with a couple of friends last week at their neighborhood playgroup and she got a boo boo. It was just a scrape that didn't even bleed so looks worse than it was. She has shown it to everyone she's met since then. The workers at Target and the grocery store have all seen M's boo boo. Here she is showing me for the 1000th time!

Catch up and a marker beard

To be honest I'm so behind on this blog that I'm overwhelmed and without my Grandmama reading it every day I'm not as motivated to update. I'll try though, just for you (whoever you are reading!).
It has been a few crazy weeks around here and right now the end is not in sight. Despite all that we adults have going on the girls are WONDERFUL and a great distraction from all not so fun grown up things! Matney loves to color with markers. Crayola makes washable markers that wipe off with just water...which means that if Matney takes her marker covered hands and puts them in her mouth the spit works just like water and the marks rub off...all over her face! Here's my marker bearded baby girl!

Happy Birthday Matney

I cannot believe we have a two year old! Oh my, time is flying faster and faster every day. I will try to get pictures of our big girl up tonight. We've been playing with new crayons this morning and eating Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes. I put a candle in her Mr. Mouse this morning and Matney FLIPPED! I took it out quickly once I could tell she didn't like it but she has said "no candle" and "no birthday" over and over all morning. My poor girl is traumatized!

We've got a low key day planned with a few of Miss M's favorite things. I asked her what she wanted to do today and she said "Matney go to the mall". Ha! Such a girl!Since I'm not rushing to get everything ready for a party this Saturday things are much calmer around here. I know Jared wishes he could be here today so we're trying to to do have too much fun until he gets home from work. Though some days are LOOOOOOOOOONG (like yesterday when neither of my girls took a nap) I am so beyond thankful to get to be home with them everyday.

Happy Birthday, Matney. Your Daddy, Mommy and Sister are so in love with you!

"Laughter through tears..."

Who can fill in the rest of that title? I bet most of you good Southern Ladies can! Remember? Truvy (Dolly Parton) said "laughter through tears is my favorite emotion" in Steel Magnolias. That is a good description of our house this week. My Grandmama raked leaves on Saturday, drove herself to church on Sunday and was in ICU on Monday. She is really sick, sedated and on a ventilator.
Tuesday I got a call that they didn't think she was going to make it and I was so upset to be stuck here in the snow. I left the room after getting off the phone because I could feel "the ugly cry" coming and the girls were happily playing next to me. I came back in the room a minute later and a few minutes after that Matney climbed into my lap and patted my face. She said, "Poor Mommy." How sweet, right? Nope, the next sentence out of her mouth was "Mommy's face all yucky!". HA! I had actually gotten showered and dressed before the girls were up so I guess even a toddler knows mascara lines are not pretty. I love that my sweet girl can always make me laugh, even through tears.
If you've read this blog long you know that I adore my Grandmama and that she adores my girls and my husband (sometimes more than me I think!) so it has been a rough week here. We decided to cancel Matney's birthday party on Saturday and are praying Grandmama is able to be awake this weekend and we can see her. Until then I'll keep Matney around me at all times for extra laughs!

What I've learned

There are lots of things I've learned in my two years being a mom. Some of those things I've paid great attention to and changed my behaviors or beliefs (like, I will NEVER say NEVER again!). On some things I seem to be a slower learner. Last year at this time we were gearing up for Matney's first birthday when she got super sick for two weeks and then I had kidney stones that put me in the hospital. Lesson learned...do not put things off until the last minute when you have children because, well, crap happens.

In this case that last statement can be taken literally. Halle Kate has been through the wringer with this stomach bug and once again it is the week before M's birthday. I thought I was well prepared. I bought everything in January and felt very organized. Now, I've got all sorts of things to do and make for our big girl's party and I've spent all free time this week doing 9 loads of laundry in 4 days.

Plus, "Matney Shortcakes" (what she calls herself when she wears her pink hat) is having a Strawberry Shortcake themed party. What's the problem you wonder? Every grocery store around us right now has a sign that says "Due to extreme weather conditions in FL this year we are temporarily out of strawberries." and I had lots of yummy strawberry treats planned. Lovely.

So, what have I learned? Once again don't just plan and purchase ahead of time but do the work well ahead of time. Next year the Christmas decorations come down and the party stuff goes up. I wonder if Monkey Joes books parties more than a year in advance? I should call today. And what else? NEVER plan a birthday party around a seasonal fruit. Learn from me people!

Halle Kate a/k/a Poop-zilla

As I take a five minute break from my day at work to write this post, my wife is no doubt continuing her battle against poop.

It appears that our little Halle Kate may have a stomach bug as she has had some serious problems with food over the last couple of days. Namely, Halle Kate could not keep it down and, now, cannot keep it up.

It all started Sunday night when Halle vomited all over herself an her crib – 3 times. I use the word vomited b/c spit up and even threw up minimize and downplay the nastiness that Stacey and I (order given not for grammar’s sake but to correctly depict the order in which we bore the brunt of the mess) were required to deal with.

Then, yesterday, Halle started to experience problems at the other end. I will not go into unnecessarily gross details but let us all agree that if unzipping footie pajamas subjects one to being covered in poop because it just starts flowing out of the pajamas (picture opening a zip-lock baggie full of water), it is unpleasant.

God bless Stacey for handling it all so well. And God Bless the little Poop-zilla may she recover quickly.

Sisters

I took the girls because I wanted pictures of Matney in her birthday tutu for her birthday invitations...clearly that didn't happen. Once we got there I quickly realized we were already on borrowed time and just needed to get one decent picture regardless of what she was wearing.
My next goal was to have some pictures of Matney at 2 and get some good ones of Halle Kate now that she can sit up. I waited too long because now she can sit and crawl. She was all over the place.
My other main goal was to get a good picture of the sisters together. We've taken hundreds (ok, thousands) of pictures at the house but they are always in their jammies with food on their face and an Elmo in the background. Here are some of the sister pictures...ha! When I tell you it was a crazy hour I really mean it was a crazy hour!

If there was a cartoon bubble above Matney's head I'm pretty sure it would say, "Oh good grief, Halle Kate. What in the world has our crazy Mama got on your head now? Poor girl, just you wait. In a couple months we'll both be able to out run her and we'll make sure there are no more of these crazy flowers and bows!".

"Come here, Halle Kate. I'll hold you...by your neck!"

"I don't think I like this. No more pictures for me please!!!"
